Alaska Anchorage Wins Seawolf Invitational

KINCAID PARK, Alaska – Alaska Anchorage won its first invitational since the RMISA and NCAA started scoring skiing co-ed here Sunday by overtaking Utah to win the Seawolf Invitational. The Seawolves racked up a day’s best 149 points to secure the victory.

In men’s nordic freestyle action, Alaska Anchorage used a 6-7-9 finish to secure 71 points. Only Colorado had a better day in men’s nordic action, finishing 2-3-5 for 83 points. New Mexico’s Simon Reissmann won the race in a time of 40:42.4 holding of Colorado’s Vegard Kjoelhammar by three-tenths of a second (40:42.7). Kjoelhammar’s teammate Matt Gelso finished third in a time of 40:55.4 followed by Denver’s Mike Hinkley (41:09.2) and CU’s Jesper Ostensen (41:26.3) to round out the top five.

UAA’s Jaime Bronga won the women’s freestyle race to help her team to victory, as she held off Denver’s Antje Maempel by three-tenths of a second, winning 32:23.5 to 32:23.8. Colorado’s Maria Grevsgaard finished third in 32:32.8 with Utah’s Annelies Cook fourth in 32:38.6 and the Buffs Alexa Turzian rounding out the top five in 32:45.5. UAA also took sixth and eighth to secure the victory.

After the Alaska Invitational concludes later Sunday, the RMISA teams will turn their focus to the Colorado Invitational, which will be held in Eldora (alpine) and Aspen (nordic) next Wednesday through Saturday.
