STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado closed the Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational in dominant fashion Saturday at Howelsen Hill, scoring 187 points across the 7.5K classic races to break away and win the meet by 66 points.
The Buffaloes finished with 689 points, while Denver (623) and Utah (619) battled for second place. Colorado put four skiers on the podium across the two races, led by Johannes Flaaten winning the men’s 7.5K classic and Storm Pedersen finishing third.
In the women’s race, Utah’s Erica Laven earned the victory and Colorado followed with a pair of podium finishes as Astri Lunde placed second and Tilde Baangman finished third to help seal the overall team win.
Utah also landed on the men’s podium as Zachary Jayne finished second behind Flaaten, while Pedersen completed Colorado’s double-podium effort in the race.
The RMISA season turns back to alpine action next, with the conclusion of the Utah Invitational scheduled for Feb. 22–24 in Park City, Utah.
