RENO, Nev.— Utah's Johs Herland continued his dominant start to the 2026 alpine season on Sunday, capturing his fifth victory in six races as RMISA competition resumed at the Nevada Invitational.
Herland claimed the men's slalom title a day after finishing second in the RMISA Qualifier, effectively swapping places with Colorado Mountain College's Lucas Ellis atop the podium. Herland led a strong Utah showing, while Westminster's Alejandro Puente Tasias finished third for the second straight race, earning the second and third podium finishes of his collegiate career.
The women's race marked a breakthrough performance for Utah, as Melanie Dahlberg earned her first career victory one day after stepping onto the podium for the first time. Fellow Ute freshman Christina Jacobsen followed in second to claim her first career podium, while Colorado's Louison Accambray continued her remarkable consistency by finishing third for her sixth straight podium to open the season.
The Nevada Invitational continues Monday at Mt. Rose with a giant slalom race that will serve as an RMISA Qualifier, followed by a second GS race Tuesday to close the meet.
