ASPEN, Colo.— Utah's Johs Herland capped a dominant opening stretch of the alpine season by sweeping all four races this week, while Colorado closed the Colorado Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational by winning the men's giant slalom and holding on to the overall team lead.
Herland claimed the men's giant slalom title to complete a four-race sweep to open the season. Behind him, Colorado delivered the deepest performance of the race, placing five skiers inside the top 10 to win the event outright. Filip Wahlqvist finished second to lead the Buffaloes, followed by Justin Bigatel in fourth, Christoffer Oestroem in sixth, Feb Allasina in eighth and Stanley Buzek in 10th as Colorado scored 95 points.
On the women's side, Denver once again showcased its depth, placing three skiers inside the top eight to post the top team score in the race. Colorado's Louison Accambray earned the individual victory, winning by a wide margin after posting the fastest time in both runs, while Denver's Sara Rask and Cecilia Pizzinato finished second and third, respectively.
Colorado finished the alpine portion of the CU-hosted meet with 356 points, nine ahead of Denver (347), while Utah placed third with 300 points.
