Utah Takes Commanding Lead At RMISA Championships

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Utah swept the podium in the women's 5K classic race Friday to take a commanding lead at the RMISA Championships, which triple as the NCAA West Regional and CU Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational here Friday at Howelsen Hill.

Novie McCabe is the women's 5K RMISA Individual Champion, and was joined on the podium by Sophia Laluki and Julie Richter, giving the Utes a perfect score of 111 points for the race.

Utah also scored 65 points in the men's race despite only having two skiers, and finished the third day of the Championships with 510 points, 67 points up on second place Denver (443) and 128.5 points up on host Colorado (381.5). Montana State (350) and Westminster (328) round out the top five.

Denver's Andreas Kirkeng is the RMISA Individual Champion in the men's 10K race, winning ahead of Colorado's Magnus Boee and Utah's Luke Jager, who also earned podiums.

Meanwhile over at the slalom hill, the alpine teams took part in an extra qualifier race. Montana State's Kristiane Bekkestad won the women's race with a pair of Westminster Griffins, Eveline Fredricsson and Denise Dingsleder joining her on the podium.

Wilhelm Normannseth won the men's slalom race with Alaska Anchorage's Leon Nikic taking second and Colorado's Louis Fausa third.

Saturday concludes action at the RMISA Championships with the 15K women's and 20K men's freestyle races. The alpine teams will be competing in a parallel slalom exhibition.
