33 RMISA Skiers Earn 51 All-America Honors

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 • by Curtis Snyder, RMISA

DENVER—A total of 57 skiers from 12 schools racked up the 80 All-American honors were handed out at the 2015 NCAA Ski Championships, held in Lake Placid from March 11-14.

Skiers earn first-team All-America honors for finishing first through fifth in the race while places six through 10 earn second-team honors. NCAA Champion Colorado along with second place Denver and third place Utah each led the way with 13 honors apiece and Vermont, which finished fourth, was close behind them with 11 honors.

The Catamounts led the way with the most skiers being honored with 10 different skiers taking home those 11 awards, and Denver led the way with the most skiers earning multiple honors with six, and the Pioneers also easily had the most first-team All-Americans with 12, five more than any other school.

The individual NCAA Champions from the event came from seven different schools, with New Mexico being the only school that had multiple individual NCAA Champions. That’s the most schools brining home individual champions since skiing became a coed sport in 1983. It’s also notable that team champion Colorado was not one of those seven schools.
