Utah Wins UAA's Seawolf Invitational

ANCHORAGE, Alaska—No. 3 Utah won the women’s GS race and had a solid day from its men’s team to pull away from No. 1 Colorado and win the 2015 Seawolf Invitational, hosted by Alaska Anchorage, Thursday here at Aleyska Ski Resort.

The Utes scored 85 points in the women’s race, winning by five points over No. 3 Denver and scored 78 points in the men’s race, 10 behind Denver and one behind Montana State, to finish with a total of 629.5 points, winning the meet by 62 points over No. 1 Colorado’s total of 567.5. The Pioneers finished third with 546 points while No. 5 New Mexico finished fourth with 533 points. Host and No. 9 Alaska Anchorage finished with 465 points in fifth place, 20 ahead of No. 10 Montana State (445).

The women got the action started and New Mexico’s Mateja Robnik won the day in a two-run time of 2:30.09, about a third of a second ahead of Denver’s Kristine Haugen (2:30.34). Colorado’s Brooke Wales earned a podium appearance in third in a time of 2:31.21 while a pair of Utes, Kristiina Rove (2:31.60) and Chloe Fausa (2:31.61) rounded out the top five.

In men’s action, Montana State’s David Neuhauser scorched the field, winning both runs and winning in a time of 2:23.56 by .44 over Westminster’s Giulio Bosca (2:24.00). Denver’s Espen Lysdahl finished third in 2:24.15 with teammate Trevor Philp taking fourth in 2:24.46. Utah’s Andy Trow rounded out the top five in a time of 2:24.62.

With the regular season now complete, the RMISA teams will gather for the regional banquet at UAA’s new Alaska Airlines Center and quickly prepare for the RMISA Championships, which get underway Friday with freestyle races at Kincaid Park and giant slalom races at Aleyka.
