Denver Goes 1-2 In Both GS Qualifiers

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 • by Curtis Snyder, RMISA

ELDORA, Colo.—Denver took the best advantage of the second RMISA GS Qualifier by finishing 1-2 in both the men’s and women’s race here Tuesday at Eldora Mountain Resort.

Kristine Haugen and Sebastian Brigovic won the GS races with teammates Monica Huebner and Erik Read coming in second, respectively. Westminster rounded out the podium on both sides, as well, with Giulio Bosca taking third in the men’s race and Tonje Sekse third in the women’s.

Haugen’s winning time of 1:56.94 was one-tenth of a second faster than Huebner (1:57.04). Sekse was third in 1:57.43 while New Mexico’s Mateja Robnik (1:57.43) and Utah’s Kristiina Rove (1:57.66) rounded out the top five.

Haugen won her 16th career race and first of 2015. She won 10 races in 2013, running the table by winning all seven GS races, and in 2014 she won five more, including four GS, making this her 12th career GS victory, a run that includes the last two NCAA Championships.

Brigovic defeated teammate Read by three-tenths of a second, 1:52.91 to 1:53.21. Bosca was less than a tenth back of Read in a tiem of 1:53.29. Colorado’s Roger Carry took fourth in a time of 1:53.75 with Bosca’s teammate Tim Lindgren rounding out the top five in a time of 1:53.97.

Brigovic hit the podium six times last year without a win and has begun 2015 on a tear, winning three of the first six races of the season and aside from one DNF, he has hit the podium in the other five races.

Most teams will head to New Mexico less than 24 hours after completing racing in Eldora for the 2015 Jade Enterprises New Mexico Invitational, schedule for Friday and Saturday with both Nordic and alpine teams in action at Red River.
