Skiers Take Full Advantage Of Extra GS Qualifier

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The RMISA’s giant slalom participants took full advantage of the additional qualifying race that was scheduled due to inclement weather at the Western State Invitation in early February here on the eve of the Western Regional hosted by Montana State.

In women’s action, Katie Lyons from Nevada got her first win of the season and jumped her qualifying number up 22 points with the victory, while New Mexico’s Karin Ohlin was second followed by a pair of Colorado Buffaloes’ in third and fourth with Lucie Zikova and Rachel Roosevelt and Alaska Anchorage’s Chrine Njeim rounding out the top five.

Ohlin also helped her qualifying number by 13 points while Roosevelt and Njeim each gained six points. Zikova earned her third separate third place finish and Njeim her second fifth place but the other three all posted their best finish of the season.

On the men’s side, several skiers helped their qualifying number out, as well, as Denver’s Seppi Stiegler won his first race of the season and moved up six points, while New Mexico’s Tor Fodnesberger gained three points with a second place finish, Denver’s John Buchar finished third, Nevada’s Greg Berger jumped 11 points with a fourth place finish and Western State’s Marc Perathoner jumped 17 points with his first top five finish of the season.
